Cryopreservation-logistics for hyperparathyroidism therapy

A standardized and validated full service.

The surgical treatment of the secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT) includes in some cases the need for parathyroidectomy and subsequent cryopreservation of the excised tissue. This also applies in exceptional cases for the primary and tertiary hyperparathyroidism. A quick and reproducible way of working is essential to maintain the viability of the extracted parathyroid glands to thereby perform a successful subsequent autotransplantation. In collaboration with various clinics BioKryo has developed a standardized and validated service in accordance to the German AWMF-guidelines. (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Wissenschaftlichen Medizinischen Fachgesellschaften)

BioKryo provides the necessary equipment for the cryopreservation prior the announced date of the surgery to the treating hospital. BioKryo organizes the entire logistics, including the provisioning of dry ice in a special biological sample suitable for the packaging and the transport of biological samples according to UN 3373 Cat. B.

The grafts will be stored in the BioKryo Biobank in Sulzbach / Saar in the gas phase of liquid nitrogen at a temperature range below -140° C. In case, that an autotransplantation surgery has to be done, BioKryo provides the appropriate thyroid glands on time to the respective clinic.

This full service reduces significantly the technical, human and logistical effort for the clinics as well as it enhances the service quality due to the standardization.

This process is embedded in the BioKryo comprehensive QM-system. Samples are stored in the BioKryo Biobank according to GMP-guidelines. The BioKryo GmbH possesses a license according to the German pharmaceutical act for the storage of e.g. parathyroid tissue or therapeutic stem cell lines and therefore we are able to provide a GMP compliant storage- and logistic service.
